In 2020, the Lofts at Cargill Falls Mill, a multifamily housing and commercial development project, was completed. The work included the refurbishment of a historic powerhouse and dam, along with deep energy efficiency retrofits for the mixed-use property.
In April 2017, New England Hydropower Company, LLC (NEHC) built the first Archimedes Screw Turbine generation facility in the United States at the Hanover Pond project in Meriden. The facility is expected to generate 920,000 kWh of electricity annually to Meriden under a long-term agreement with the City.
Thanks to the significant expertise and innovation of the project’s developer, Canton Hydro, LLC, and many stakeholders, including the Town of Canton, The Provident Bank, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and the Connecticut Green Bank, this 1 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric facility at the Upper Collinsville Dam on the Farmington River in Canton opened in 2022. The facility is projected to generate an average 4.3 million kWh of clean energy and save 3.2 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, while preserving a historic powerhouse, enhancing public safety features, and revitalizing aquatic habitat by allowing fish to swim upstream for spawning for the first time since 1867.
